Conclusions about data gathered in the C8 Health Project are coming from two primary sources but the relationship between the C8 Science Panel and West Virginia University researchers is described as being more collaborative than competitive in nature.
In recent weeks, media attention has been drawn to study reports on C8 exposure released by two groups of researchers who are working from the same body of data. Dr. Kyle Steenland, one of three members of the C8 Science Panel, says both parties have access to the same database from the C8 Health Project collected in 2005 and 2006. In order to cover a lot of territory and not duplicate each other’s work, the two groups of researchers have made some agreements to work together.
